DESCRIPTION:
This is a PDF file of 2 separate crochet patterns to complete a fun photography prop set for a professional photographer or even an amateur that just wants some fun photos. It would also make a great Halloween costume for a baby girl.  You’re not able to walk in the tail, so it can only be used for photos, or for a baby that doesn’t walk.  Some older kids and adults like to use it as a blanket/sleeping bag for lounging on the couch as well.  

The Mermaid Tail pattern was designed to be made quickly for a photography prop and uses different weights of yarn for different sizes.  An adult sized tail is a quick and easy weekend project.  Depending on the size you are making, it calls for varying numbers of strands of worsted weight yarn, bulky yarn, or super bulky yarn. The hook size needed also depends on size of tail you are making and could be anything from “J” to “Q” (6 to 15 mm). Photos are included to show various steps in the pattern.  This is the ORIGINAL "adult" size mermaid tail pattern.

SIZES:
Mermaid Tail:  ALL SIZES, doll/preemie to adult
Bikini top:  Baby to child size only

SKILL LEVEL:
Intermediate.  Must be able to follow a written crochet pattern.  One of the patterns includes a button being sewn on, but it is optional.

TERMINOLOGY:
This pattern is written in STANDARD U.S. CROCHET TERMS and in English only.

MATERIALS NEEDED:
Yarn:  Depending on the size you are making, this set of patterns calls for varying numbers of strands of worsted weight yarn, bulky yarn, or super bulky yarn. 
Hook:  The hook size needed also depends on size of tail you are making and could be anything from “J” to “Q” (6 to 15 mm).  A detailed chart is provided for every size of the mermaid tail.  The pattern was written so that ANY brand of yarn can be used, and all the options are included in the chart with the pattern.  
Notions:  stitch marker, yarn needle, measuring tape
